Advantages of Jogging / Running (over Walking? NOT necessarily)

While I’m no marathon runner, lately having taken-up light jogging as a hobby, primarily in absence of an opportunity to swim in the cold winters of Delhi, I feel I can share my experience which perhaps can add some value to you.
Disclaimer: Please do not blindly follow anything I say. In case of doubt please refer to an expert.

Jogging clears your mind like no other activity does. It helps you think better, get new and fresh ideas, and buoyants your mood in a way that you can implement them. It makes your heart pound faster, opens your lungs since you breathe harder and makes you sweat which opens the pores of your skin. It helps you to get into a habit of setting goals, aiming for them and achieving them. It sets you into a routine and hence a sense of rhythm. It gives you a chance to appreciate your surroundings and feel the nature beautiful. It’s one of the most amazing exercises for those who spend long hours in front of their laptop. It gets you back into that ‘feeling positively hungry’ mode so that you can appreciate your meals. It provides you a sense of achievement, satisfaction and above all a newly discovered confidence. Last but not the least, it makes start loving yourself again in the mirror (if by any chance you are not already doing so!).

Some dos and don’ts:
1.     Invest in the best pair of shoes you can afford; don’t compromise of this
2.     Either do some stretching exercises or simply brisk walk some distance before you start jogging
3.     Choose a destination and then don’t keep on thinking about it, just enjoy the journey and the experience
4.    Follow a routine but not a pattern; keep changing your path - sometimes a round in the park and sometimes a straight path from Point A to B
5.     Go solo or in a group, the former gives you a flexibility to choose your own timings and location, the latter could offer you a sense of motivation
6.    Initial period is the most difficult, your ankles and calf muscles will ache, you will feel hungrier, so keep a watch and don’t go overboard on the food intake; also you may feel sleepier which is in a way good for you
7.    Plan to sip fluids regularly if you decide to go long distance
8.     Thinking about new sense of affordability to eat your favourite dish could act as a sense of motivation for some

If you are still not encouraged enough to jog, suit yourself to be my guest for a few days, I’m ready to work with you !
